On Tuesday 8th July, members of the ORI team took part in the Clinicians Meet Engineers event held by University Hospital Southampton and the University of Southampton. The event brought together clinicians and researchers from across the region to explore collaborative opportunities at the intersection of healthcare and engineering.
ORI was represented by Professor Tom Wainwright, along with PhD student Wissem Tafat and MRes student Jaskomal Kaur. Wissem and Jaskomal had the opportunity to connect with researchers and industry experts, gaining insight into how technological innovation is shaping the future of healthcare delivery, and making important connections to help their research.
The afternoon featured flash presentations from a wide range of participants, showcasing opportunities for new collaborations, across topics such as diagnostics, monitoring and treatment delivery innovations; machine learning and AI for prediction and classification; data visualisation for decision support; computer vision and medical imaging; and digital health, telehealth, and home/community care.
Commenting on the event, Professor Wainwright said:
“This was an inspiring afternoon that opened the door to new partnerships between clinical researchers and technologists. The alignment with the EPSRC Health Technologies Strategy is clear, and events like this help to turn those strategic ambitions into real-world projects.”
ORI looks forward to building on the connections made today and exploring collaborative projects that bridge clinical need with technological possibility.
